The genus Culex is that which, so far, has not been found to be responsible for conveying malaria parasites. Of the genus Anopheles, which Surgeon-Major Ross is convinced from his careful investigations is responsible for inoculating mankind with malarial germs, not a single specimen seems to have been discovered in Hongkong.
I propose now to discontinue collecting Culex, as no new species have been found for a considerable time, but it seems desirable that efforts should still be made in the search for Anopheles. We have here no information that any species of Anopheles has been found except in India and Africa where they have been seen in abundance and proved to be one cause of malarial fever.
My search for the insects has extended over various parts of Hongkong and Kowloon, including the malarial districts of West End, Pokfulam, Magazine Gap, and Aberdeen. In this work, I was able to make use of the Forest Rangers to collect, as they were able to distinguish and catch the insects, though unable to identify them. The collection of the requisite number of specimens involved a great number of visits to each place until the work at all the different places was done. The places were also visited every month in order to ascertain if different kinds of mosquitoes appeared at different
